The LGBTQ+ Alliance Fund mourns the passing— and celebrates the life—of our Emeritus Board Member and former Board Chair, Doug Noffsinger. Doug was an honored audiologist, staunch advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, avid bird watcher, and world traveler. He passed away in March 2023.
Born in the San Luis Valley of Southern Colorado, Doug graduated from the University of Northern Colorado in 1964 and obtained his PhD in audiology from Northwestern University in 1968.
In 1980, Doug, and his longtime partner, Roger Funk, moved to Los Angeles at the invitation of the Veterans Administration hospital in West LA. Doug became Chief of the Audiology and Speech Pathology Service of the Greater Los Angeles VA Healthcare System and Associate Professor in Residence, Department of Head & Neck Surgery, UCLA School of Medicine.
In 2004, Doug retired and he and Roger moved to Tucson, where Doug was an advocate for gay rights and loyal supporter of the Alliance Fund. Doug dreamed big for our grantees, and was one of three major donors to support the hiring of a paid staff position to elevate the Alliance Fund’s impact in Southern Arizona.
