Investing in our Nonprofit Leaders

The Center for Healthy Nonprofits, an initiative of the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, supports the Southern Arizona nonprofit community by offering affordable capacity-building workshops and training. While nonprofit professionals and their boards of directors and volunteers share a passion for their organizational mission, very few come to their nonprofit roles with all the knowledge and experience necessary to handle the diversity of roles they must play. The Center is dedicated to fostering their growth through professional and organizational development in a collaborative, learning-focused environment. By addressing the challenges of limited resources, the Center aims to empower nonprofit leaders to achieve their missions effectively.

I see the real power of the Center as being this Community Connector…Under the umbrella of CFSA, the Center really represents our community’s commitment to the success and impact of nonprofits.

— Jenny Carrillo, Alexander|Carrillo Consulting LLC

Before there was the Center there was no place where you could necessarily go or know how to get help…the fact that so many organizations, especially the small ones, especially board members, know about the Center, and participate, really really makes a difference in crisis situations…where you would have no where to go.

— Evan Mendelson, Facilitators Learning Guild

It’s really about CFSA and their willingness to be bold and different. There are a lot of groups similar to theirs throughout this nation that would really just push forward doing the same old same old, but, [CFSA is] courageous. They’re transformational, they’re a disruptor. That rises from the top, their board, their President and CEO and the staff that they have that is just so amazing. Without them willing to BE that, they couldn’t show us that.

— Jamal Givens, President/CEO, Liberty Partners Kino Neighborhoods Coalition

The most valuable thing…was having a person or people to call when I felt all alone. The knowledge and the information that they provide is vital for the growth of my organization, but it’s also vital for my emotional support. It’s not that I only go for the knowledge, but that I stay for the community.
