The HR Roundtable gathers on the last Thursday of the month, where we share our experiences in building better workplaces and discuss relevant themes within the scope of Human Resources in organizations that have a positive social impact.

This session will provide an opportunity to interact with two local nonprofit HR professionals who were certified by the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) – Katie Kevershan of Ben’s Bells and Katy Shaw of Tohono Chul—about their decision to become certified and what it involved.

Some of the topics they can address, in addition to fielding questions from participants:

  • Is certification in HR worth it? Why did you decide to go for it?
  • What are the key advantages? Any disadvantages?
  • How long does it take?
  • How much does it cost?
  • How much time do you need to set aside to study for the exam?
  • What is the exam like?
  • After certification, what do you have to do to maintain it?

Additionally, we have invited SHRM-GT Certification Director Tiffany Halterman to join us so she can share with the group about available resources through SHRM-GT including the certification study group.
