Tenant Spotlight: Act One

Tenant Spotlight: Act One

In Arizona, schools increasingly do not have funds for field trips. This is especially the case for Title 1 schools in lower-income communities. A charitable organization founded in 2011, Act One provides school children from low-income families the opportunity to experience arts performances and exhibitions through field trips to professional theaters and museums.

During the 2019-2020 school year, Act One will bring nearly 9,500 K-12 students and chaperones on educational arts field trips in Tucson. Statewide, Act One is partnering with more than 50 arts organizations to bring more than 50,000 students on field trips. Since Act One pays for both the tickets and the busing, students who previously didn’t attend field trips can now experience the arts.

Act One joined the CF Campus in the spring of 2019.  “We have a staff of 6 FTE and work in two markets, and our office at the Community Foundation Campus provides staff and volunteers the flexibility to serve our Tucson arts partners and schools,” said Geri Wright, president and CEO of Act One.  It’s a terrific environment to be surrounded by other nonprofits and gives us meeting and workspace that is ideal for our needs.”
