2021 Report to the Community

Together, we are building an equitable and vibrant community for all.

Many of us will remember 2021, year two of the COVID-19 pandemic and the reckoning for racial justice following the murder of George Floyd, as a time marked by both continued struggle and renewal. As reflected in this annual report, our Southern Arizona community has pulled together to invest in resilience. Through the creation of new partnerships, continued COVID-19 relief funding, and the remarkable generosity of our donors, the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona has been at the forefront of opportunities to build nonprofit resilience in our region.

The needs of our communities carry on, and the challenges of this pandemic affect lives daily. In fiscal year 2021, CFSA continued to support the vulnerable individuals and families most affected by the pandemic and the nonprofits who serve them by providing grants in collaboration with CFSA’s funding partners and donors. As of December 2021, CFSA’s COVID-19 relief funding to Southern Arizona nonprofits exceeded $3.8 million, with 93% of grantee organizations serving marginalized populations. CFSA also stepped up our long-standing commitment to increasing the capacity of Southern Arizona’s nonprofit community through new partnerships and expanded programming. CFSA’s Catchafire program, which pairs nonprofits with volunteers with expertise, grew from 100 nonprofits to over 300 nonprofits. Several new partnerships were established, including a collaboration with The University of Arizona’s Eller College to offer nonprofit professionals free, high-quality training that culminated in a certificate in Nonprofit Leadership and Management.
