Each fall marks the six-month point for our annual CORE Grants. This year, the Community Investments team at the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona (CFSA) had the opportunity to visit some of our grantees to check in, tour the organization, and ask, “how are things going, and what can we do to support you beyond the check?”
From Tucson to Sahuarita to Safford to Bisbee, the Community Investments team got to explore the Tucson Children’s Museum, participate in an art activity at The Drawing Studio, and preview exciting science features at the Bisbee Science Lab (to name a few)!
All CORE grantees expressed that the unrestricted component of the CORE grants was integral to their organization, allowing nonprofits to apply the funding towards hiring new staff, continuing professional development, or simply keeping the lights on. Almost all grantees intend to apply for the 2023 CORE Grant Round.
“One of the things we really value about general operating funding is the ability to put money where it’s needed most at that given time. With funding for general operating costs, we can go ahead and take care of our staff and give them a livable wage; we can take care of new computers, and we can take care of making sure that the lights are on,” shared Nicole Glasner, Executive Director of Clínica Amistad.
CFSA’s 2022 CORE Grants were made possible with support from CFSA’s Unrestricted Fund and Field of Interest Funds, our generous CORE Donor Collaborators, and the Connie Hillman Family Foundation. Areas funded include human services; arts and culture; environment and animals; legal services; education; health; youth and elderly services; immigrant services; and Native/Indigenous support. In 2022, CFSA awarded $1,119,500 to 55 nonprofits in Southern Arizona, the largest single grant round in CFSA’s 42-year history.
