2025 Igor Gorin Memorial Award Recipient

Honoring the 2025 Igor Gorin Memorial Award Recipient

The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona is proud to recognize the recipient of the Igor Gorin Memorial Award, one of the largest and most prestigious awards of its kind in the nation.

Established in 1987 by Mary Gorin in memory of her husband, world-renowned opera singer Igor Gorin, the award honors his legacy and passion for music. Mr. Gorin, a Russian refugee who escaped to Vienna in the late 1920s before immigrating to the United States, earned the nickname “Prince of Baritones” for his remarkable talent and international acclaim. Since its inception, the Gorin Award has provided more than $370,000 to support young vocalists as they launch their operatic careers.

This year’s recipient, James McCarthy, recently completed an Adler Fellowship with the San Francisco Opera. He holds a Master of Music from Rice University and a Bachelor of Music from the University of Rochester.

Congratulations, James! We look forward to following your artistic journey and future successes.

“Receiving this award allows me to continue growing as an emerging artist. I can now afford lessons, coaching, musical equipment, audition travel, and living expenses that were previously out of reach. I am incredibly grateful for this support—thank you to everyone who helps sustain this fund!”
