The Power of Local Action in Uncertain Times
In recent weeks, many nonprofit professionals, fund holders, and community leaders have shared their concerns about the uncertainty surrounding funding for programs that serve our community. It’s natural to feel uneasy in times of change, but we also have a tremendous opportunity to make a difference through local action here in Southern Arizona.
Just last month, CFSA’s APIDA Fund quickly rallied local advocates to support teaching Asian American history in our schools—mobilizing within 24 hours. And in just the past two months, CFSA fund holders have directed an incredible $4.5 million toward strengthening our community.
Even when broader challenges feel out of our control, our collective efforts at the local level continue to create meaningful impact.
Local action empowers our community. Here’s how you can make a difference:
TELL STORIES – Share the impact of local nonprofits with your friends, family, and networks. Did you know that in the last year, trust in nonprofits increased by 5 percentage points to 57%? (Candid) That’s almost the same percentage (58%) concerned with the cost of living! Or that 75.7 million Americans are nonprofit volunteers? (Candid)
SHOW GRACE – Nonprofits are navigating significant challenges. One recently had to lay off their grant writer and requested an extension on a CORE grant application. Instead of granting one extension, we extended the deadline for all applicants to CORE & Comunidad grants. It meant a bit less time for review, but it was the right thing to do. Small acts of understanding can make a big difference.
SUPPORT LOCAL – Whether it’s artists, small businesses, theaters, gardens, or museums, investing in our local economy strengthens our community. A fun way to do that is to RSVP today for CFSA’s 2025 Campus Art Reception. In addition to the chance to celebrate the installation of new pieces of art created by Southern Arizona artists, the evening will feature an Artist Marketplace.
Even in uncertain times, we have the power to create meaningful change — When we work together, the impossible becomes possible.
