As you may know, the Pima Alliance for Animal Welfare (PAAW) is a community initiative of the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona. The objective of PAAW is to ensure that all Pima County companion animals have a loving home and humane care.

As part of this work, PAAW’s Human Animal Bond Subcommittee seeks to support the connection between people and their pets, especially for older and lower-income communities. The Human Animal Bond Subcommittee has identified a long-standing need for a stronger network of temporary pet care solutions for individuals and families in crisis.

These crises could be a short or long-term hospital stay, evictions or unstable housing, and other critical moments when a pet owner needs temporary refuge for their companion animals. Without support services, some people will have to give up their pets. While certain services of this nature already exist, they are limited by who they serve or how many animals they are able to serve.

PAAW’s Human Animal Bond Subcommittee is inviting stakeholders of all backgrounds from human services to animal services, public and private sectors, and interested community members to join us for a facilitated conversation about this urgent and growing community need. Your only commitment is to bring your best thinking for brainstorming new solutions. The meeting will be facilitated by The Center for Community Mediation and Facilitation.
