CEO Survival Series 2026

Eight-Month Cohort Program for Nonprofit CEOs and Executive Directors

March–October 2026 | Community Foundation for Southern Arizona

This immersive program equips nonprofit CEOs and Executive Directors with the leadership, strategy, and personal development skills essential for thriving in today’s complex nonprofit environment. The series builds community among peers, provides expert instruction, and focuses on practical tools for impact. The program also includes access to a mentor, a panel discussion with CEO SS Alumni and a one-on-one coaching session with Rose Snyder. Participants will be required to create a capstone project to present at the final session.

Session Schedule and Topics

Each two-hour session runs from 9:00–11:00 AM. March, August, and October sessions will be in-person at the CFSA campus; all others will be on Zoom.

Attendance at all sessions is expected (exceptions for emergencies).

Session Details

Session #1: Welcome, Communication & Leadership Foundations

Tuesday, March 3 – CFSA Campus (In-Person)

  • Program overview, introductions, group agreements, and cohort norms.
  • Shapes® Communication Styles with Rose Snyder — understanding your leadership shape and how to flex your communication for success.
  • Defining the CEO/ED Role: Exploring the four core roles of a nonprofit leader — strategist, fund developer, thought leader, and mission advocate.

Session #2: Leading People and Building Culture

Tuesday, April 7 – Zoom

  • Understanding Your Leadership Style and engaging your staff and stakeholders.
  • Developing a strong internal culture: building trust, addressing challenges, and developing your leadership bench.
  • Discussion: The evolving role of the nonprofit CEO in shaping culture.

Session #3: Human Resources & the Power of Feedback

Tuesday, May 5 – Zoom

  • HR Essentials for CEOs — policies, supervision, and managing risk.
  • Techniques for effective feedback, handling conflict, and addressing performance issues with confidence.
  • Mini-case study: “When feedback is a gift.”

Session #4: Fundraising & Donor Relationships for CEOs

Tuesday, June 9 – Zoom

  • Understanding your role as chief fundraiser and community ambassador.
  • Partnering with your development staff and board to inspire donor confidence.
  • Guest speaker: Local philanthropic leader on building trust-based donor relationships.

Session #5: Governance & Financial Stewardship

Tuesday, July 14 – Zoom

  • Governance and Board Partnerships — effective board management, meeting facilitation, and the CEO/Chair relationship.
  • Financial Leadership — understanding KPIs, budgets, and using financial data to inform strategic decisions.

Session #6: Executive Presence & Public Speaking

Tuesday, August 11 – CFSA Campus (In-Person)

  • Executive Presence for Impactful Leadership with Rose Snyder — cultivating confidence, authenticity, and influence.
  • Public Speaking Lab — practical strategies for storytelling, body language, and speaking with clarity and conviction.
  • Peer practice and feedback.

Session #7: The Resilient Leader: Self Management and Sustainability

Tuesday, September 8 – Zoom

  • Self-Care, Boundaries, and Resilience— balancing leadership demands and wellbeing.
  • Building sustainable leadership habits and managing burnout.
  • Reflective discussion: “What does thriving look like for me?”

Session #8: Cohort Capstone Presentations & Cohort Celebration

Tuesday, October 6 – CFSA Campus (In-Person)

  • Cohort Capstone Presentations
  • Cohort reflection, takeaways, and graduation ceremony.

We are accepting applications from those interested in participating. To apply, please fill out the form via the link below. Space is limited.

Program Cost

The majority of programmatic costs are subsidized by the Center for Healthy Nonprofits at CFSA. There is a $500 co-pay/participant. Scholarships are available but limited and based on need. Those who receive scholarships will be required to act as mentors for future CEO Survival Cohorts.
