The We Are One | Somos Uno CARES Act Nonprofit Continuity Grant Program was created by the Mayor and Council of Tucson to support local nonprofits by addressing necessary expenditures due to the ongoing COVID-19 public health emergency. The City of Tucson has selected Community Foundation for Southern Arizona to implement this grant program.
Grant Guidelines, Basic Eligibility, and Timeline
Tucson and South Tucson Nonprofits who are serving individuals and families impacted by COVID-19 can apply for up to $20,000 in funding through City of Tucson’s We Are One | Somos Uno Resiliency Fund.

- Based upon the charitable structure of CFSA, grants are limited to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and groups fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We are not able to fund individuals or businesses directly, labor unions, or other 501(c)(4), 501(c)(5) and 501(c)(6) organizations. If you are an individual or business who is seeking support, please contact the Women’s Foundation for Southern Arizona or the YWCA.
- Have local leadership in the form of a board of directors or advisory committee, local financial support, and local program management and accountability. In the case of nationally sponsored organizations, no portion of the grant can be used to support the national, state, or regional entity.
- CFSA honors the rich diversity of our community and promotes equal opportunities for all people. Awards made by CFSA’s grant panels support organizations that do not discriminate in their employment practices, volunteer opportunities, or delivery of programs and services on basis of: Race, Religion, Gender or Gender Identity (including gender nonconformity and status as a transgender individual), Gender Expression, Sexual Orientation, Age, Ancestry, Citizenship, Ethnicity, Familial Status, Socioeconomic Status (economic circumstances), Color, Creed, Sex (including pregnancy), Phases of Parenthood, National Origin, Marital Status, Veteran Status (past, current or prospective service in the armed forces), Genetic Information, Physical Characteristics or Appearance, Mental or Physical Disability, or any other status prohibited by applicable law.
Specific Requirements for CARES Act Grants
(please read carefully!)
- Applicants must be physically located in the City of Tucson, including the City of South Tucson. Please use this a map to confirm your organization is within city limits.
- Applicants must have been legally established 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization as of February 2020.
- The CARES Act provides that funds may only be used to cover costs that:
- Are necessary expenditures incurred due to the public health emergency with respect to the Coronavirus Disease 2019 (COVID-19);
- Were not accounted for in the budget most recently approved as of March 27, 2020; and
- Were incurred during the period that begins on March 1, 2020, and ends on December 30, 2020.
- If you have already received CARES Act funding, you are eligible to apply however you can not use Somos Uno funding to support losses or expenses already covered by March 23rd CARES Act legislation that you already received.
- Specifically, eligible expenses include public health expenses, payroll expenses, expenses of actions to facilitate compliance with COVID-19-related public health measures (e.g., facility costs), expenses associated with the provision of economic support (e.g., unemployment insurance costs), and any other COVID-19-related expenses reasonably necessary to the function of government that satisfies the eligibility.
- Applicants will be required to acknowledge and agree that the grant funds will be used only to reimburse expenses that were incurred due to the COVID-19 crisis and are within the criteria of section 601(d) of the Social Security Act. Applicants shall further acknowledge that if funds are not expended in a consistent manner, the funds are subject to recoupment.
- Applicants must follow standard procedures and federal guidelines to ensure grants funds are distributed in a timely manner for designated purposes or as determined by CFSA in accordance with federal rules and regulations and CFSA operations and policies
- Applicants must agree to submit reporting and receipts of all expenditures by December 1, 2020 to the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona who will then provide these items to the City of Tucson.
