SUMMARY:Legal Duties of Nonprofit Board Members
DESCRIPTION:Are you navigating the legal responsibilities of board members of nonprofit organizations – either as a current board member or a nonprofit employee? \nWe will discuss the three primary legal duties of board members and how to fulfill those duties through practical examples; conflicts of interest – how to spot them and how to deal with them; and the differences between serving on the board of a nonprofit organization and serving on the board of a for-profit organization\, and other related topics. \nBoard members and nonprofit employees at all levels are welcome to come with questions. \nThis event will be held via Zoom on April 11 from 10:30 AM to 12:00 PM. \n\n

SUMMARY:Marketing + Communications Roundtable
DESCRIPTION:The Center for Healthy Nonprofits will be holding a monthly gathering of nonprofit marketing and communications professionals to share resources and interact with experts and each other in order to learn and grow. \nIn this month’s session\, we will be joined by Melissa Gruenwald\, who will present a case study on “Managing Communications During a Crisis.” \nMeetings are held via Zoom on the second Tuesday of each month from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM. \nIf you are interested in joining this ongoing group\, please contact Paula Van Ness at pvanness@cfsaz.org to obtain more information and the link to participate. \n\nAbout our Speaker\nMelissa graduated from the University of Arizona with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. She spent the next three years in the hospitality industry\, developing impeccable customer service and organizational skills. In 1992\, she returned to the University of Arizona’s Eller School to begin earning her Master of Business Administration with an emphasis in Marketing and Healthcare. During her summer break in 1993\, her healthcare professor offered her a unique internship opportunity at Tucson Medical Center. Little did she know at the time – this opportunity would spur a career in healthcare that would grow and prosper over three decades. Her career with two hospital systems and a private medical practice have allowed her the opportunity to grow her expertise in business development\, strategy\, marketing\, recruitment and leadership. \nIn her personal life\, Melissa has committed her volunteer efforts to children and equestrian activities\, her two greatest passions in life. As a native to Southern Arizonan\, she adores the lifestyle and culture of the Southwest. Volunteer efforts throughout the past three decades have included Pima County search and rescue\, mentoring at-risk youth\, 4-H leadership\, board membership with the Marana Junior Rodeo Association\, mentor for Teton Valley Ranch Camp and most recently\, healing retreats with Integrative Touch for Kids. She has touched the lives of many children through her teaching and mentoring and adores the individuals who have become family through this process. She continues to live in Northwest Tucson and is actively involved in 4-H with her two daughters and granddaughter on the weekends. All are avid equestrians and enjoy outdoor activities in our greater Southwest.

SUMMARY:Reimagining Nonprofit Boards: A Deeper Discussion
DESCRIPTION:Did you attend the January “Reimagining Nonprofit Boards Conference” and come away with inspiration to make your board better? But\, like some of us\, you may have wondered what steps to take and in what order. There are lots of changes to consider\, but what’s going to have the greatest impact on your board and board members? Or maybe you missed the conference\, but you’ve been thinking about and even trying some new ways of doing things to make your board more effective while helping your board members have a more rewarding experience. \nThis guided conversation on Zoom may be just the right place for you on April 13th from 3:00 to 5:00 PM—for an interactive session facilitated by members of the Tucson Facilitators Guild\, which will focus on three critical topics: \n· Recruiting New Members for Board Service\n· Creating a Joyful and Rewarding Board Experience\n· Structural Changes that Make a Difference for Boards \nWe will spend a significant amount of our time together in small groups taking a deep dive into those three areas pinpointing high-impact changes\, followed by reporting back to the larger group to build a consensus around specific new approaches and action steps that boards can take. By the end of the session\, each participant should have identified at least three potential action steps to discuss with fellow board members and their executives to try with their boards. \nWe’ll adjourn the session at 5:00 PM so that participants who are interested can reconvene at the Community Foundation Campus for a Networking Session to continue these conversations informally. You are welcome to one or both activities. \nJoin us on Campus for networking from 5:30 PM to 6:30 PM! \n\nPlease save the date of September 7\, 2023\, from 3 PM to 5 PM to come back together again on Zoom to hear what worked\, what didn’t\, and what lessons members of the group learned following this April discussion.

SUMMARY:Leading Inclusively: Who Am I As a Nonprofit Leader

The session will focus on nonprofit leaders reflecting on who they are\, how they came to be\, and what might get in the way of their leadership. Specifically addressing unconscious bias\, this session will draw out the mind bugs from birth that hamper our ability to include others who are different from ourselves. \nThis session will be held via Zoom on April 26\, 2023 from 11:00 AM – 12:30 PM.  \nTo register\, please select the ‘Register Here’ button above. \n\n
