SUMMARY:Understanding Poverty Workshop
DESCRIPTION:In partnership with the Frances McClelland Institute for Children\, Youth\, and Families\, Pima County Community and Workforce Development\, Primavera Foundation\, and Social Venture Partners Tucson\, the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona is pleased to host an Understanding Poverty Workshop with Bonnie Bazata.\n \nWhat: Understanding Poverty Workshop\nWhen: October 25\, 2023 | 9:00 AM – 12:00 PM\nWhere: Community Foundation Campus | 5049 E. Broadway Blvd. \nPoverty is a complex set of conditions that make it very difficult for people to break the cycle. Understanding poverty means examining the systems and policies that contribute to environments of chronic instability\, scarcity\, and stress. Participants will examine economic class and its impact on our lives and institutions\, reflect on how systemic inequality is a significant barrier\, and review tools for change. Ideas and tools are drawn from national researchers\, including Matthew Desmond\, behavioral science\, the Bridges Out of Poverty framework\, and other resources. \nThis workshop is the first in a series of events focused on poverty produced in partnership with the Primavera Foundation in celebration of the organization’s 40th anniversary. Click here to learn more. \nAbout Our Presenter\nBonnie Bazata is the Ending Poverty Now Program Manager for Pima County\, a 2015 initiative incorporated into the County’s economic development plan. She is currently leading the Prosperity Initiative\, a county-wide effort to develop policy to reduce generational poverty while building resources and assets for low-income families. Bonnie has extensive experience working with culturally and economically diverse communities and on issues related to poverty. She has an MA from the University of Arizona\, a teaching certificate from Prescott College\, and a BA from Antioch College\, where she was a Watson Fellow.
