Tucson Lifestyle Feature: Year-End Giving

Year-End Giving

by Jenny Flynn, President & CEO

At the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona (CFSA), we believe in a vibrant and equitable Southern Arizona for all. That means supporting the nonprofits that meet our community’s needs, building partnerships with generous donors who want to make an impact, and serving as a trusted resource for bold ideas that can shape our future.

Nonprofits are the backbone of our communities. They provide critical services, strengthen families, and preserve culture. Across Southern Arizona, these organizations are on the front lines of housing, food security, healthcare, and education.

Yet many are still facing funding cuts and staff reductions, and they need our support now more than ever.

Donations not tied to a specific program or project give organizations the freedom to use resources where they are needed most. This type of giving allows them to respond quickly to shifting needs, adjust to rising costs, and keep services running even when the future feels uncertain. In 2025, CFSA provided unrestricted funding through the CORE and Comunidad Grant Programs that collectively gave over $1,350,000 to 77 Southern Arizona nonprofits. These funds helped organizations retain staff, invest in technology, and sustain programs that might otherwise have been cut. As one nonprofit leader told us, “While the demand for services continues to grow, the resources to meet that demand are shrinking. We are serving more families in crisis, including veterans, individuals facing homelessness, and those navigating behavioral health challenges, yet we are piecing together funding case by case.”

As a donor, your gift, whether large or small, helps create a stronger community. By giving through CFSA, you are not simply making a transaction. You are joining neighbors, businesses, and families who believe in a vibrant and equitable Southern Arizona is possible. Donors influence not only how much is given but also how those gifts shape the future. The nonprofits you choose to support, the funds you contribute to, and the timing of your generosity all have real, lasting effects on the lives of people across our region.

The end of the year is an important time for nonprofits. Many organizations receive the bulk of their annual funding in these final weeks. Your support ensures they can start 2026 strong, paying staff, running programs, and meeting urgent needs without interruption. Even a single gift can have lasting effects.

There are many ways to give through CFSA. You can make an online donation, establish a donor advised fund, or contribute to an Impact Fund that supports causes like arts and culture, healthy communities, or economic equity.

Giving through CFSA is about more than writing a check. It connects you to a community of people working toward long-term solutions. CFSA serves as more than a grant maker by convening conversations that drive action, like the Solutions-Focused Community Book Club, a community dialogue on living with extreme heat, and a City Council candidate forum. Through updates like The Steady Saguaro from our President and CEO, we keep donors and partners informed and inspired. By amplifying nonprofit voices and fostering collaboration, CFSA helps ensure that Southern Arizona’s challenges and opportunities are addressed collectively.
