“What Does Receiving This Award Mean to You?” – Responses From Our 2025 Queer for Good Award Recipients

On this thrilling road to assembling the 2025 Queer for Good event, we caught up with those who will be honored at MOCA Tucson on Nov. 6th – Colette Barajas and Kyungsun Choi – to talk about what winning these awards for their activism and allyship from CFSA’s LGBTQ+ Alliance Fund means to them in their own words.

Q: What does receiving the 2025 Sylvia Mulka Legacy Change-Maker Award mean to you?

Colette Barajas: I feel honored knowing how Sylvia cared for her friends and people in general. She used her soft voice and resources to help others. She was bold in her expressions of equality in order to benefit others. Her courage for change and acceptance was loud and strong. I’m proud to have been able to call her a friend.

Q: What does receiving the 2025 Doug Noffsinger Solidarity Award mean to you?

Dr. Kyungsun Choi: Receiving the Doug Noffsinger Solidarity Award means so much to me because it’s a reminder that solidarity is about showing up for each other. I don’t think it is just recognition of my work but it is encouragement to keep creating spaces where everyone feels seen, valued, and included. This honor inspires me to continue building community and carrying forward Doug’s legacy of allyship.
