The Steady Saguaro: Even in the Heat, We BLOOM Together

Even in the Heat, We BLOOM Together

As the desert sun climbs higher each day, we wait for the monsoons. Their thunderclouds are a reminder that relief and renewal are always on the horizon. In Southern Arizona, summer can be harsh. And just like saguaros standing tall through it all, we’re paying close attention, staying rooted, and preparing to act.

One act that our team at CFSA has appreciated is grief training. Never would I have thought that spending time understanding the science of grief and how to support yourself and others through non-death, but nonetheless painful, transition would be part of our work in philanthropy. Yet our team’s recent grief training led us to a greater understanding of ourselves and what our communities need. I am so pleased to be able to offer that training to others through the Center for Healthy Nonprofits on July 29th.

Last month, the House of Representatives passed what’s being called the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” Behind the name are serious consequences. While supporters are aiming to push it through by July 4, we remain deeply concerned. The revised version still includes cuts to critical programs like SNAP and Medicaid, and it proposes new taxes on private foundations. These changes would hit our community hard. They threaten access to food, healthcare, and the nonprofit infrastructure that keeps so many families afloat. The National Council of Nonprofits is maintaining up-to-date resources, including a helpful Myth vs. Reality document that offers clarity.

Stay Committed

How you give matters. Unrestricted giving provides the flexibility nonprofits need most. It allows organizations to adapt quickly, respond to emergencies, and meet evolving community needs. These flexible funds help nonprofits keep their doors open, staff paid, and essential services running, even when the unexpected hits.

What you give matters. Whether it’s $5 or $5,000, every gift helps. Any amount contributes to the work happening across Southern Arizona. When we come together, we create real impact. It’s not just about large gifts or big headlines. It’s about neighbors supporting neighbors, nonprofits having what they need to serve, and building a stronger, more caring community for everyone.

Whether it’s rising heat or rising stakes, we stay steady, rooted in community, and when the rain comes, we bloom!
