Nonprofit leaders: GOP’s funding cuts would ‘tear at fabric’ of charity efforts in Southern Arizona

The Community Foundation of Southern Arizona, joined by six other Tucson-based nonprofits, said Wednesday the budget bill moving through Congress would have an “immediate and catastrophic impact” as it cut support for social service organizations.
Jenny Flynn, the group’s president and CEO, said local nonprofit organizations are the “backbone of the community” but will face significant cuts because of the so-called “Big Beautiful Bill” pushed by President Donald Trump.
“Nonprofits are the bedrock of our community, providing a critical safety net for our most vulnerable residents,” said Flynn. “When federal funding is cut, it’s not just numbers on a balance sheet that are affected; it’s the lives of our neighbors, friends, and family members. We are urging a community-wide conversation about the importance of these services and the need for sustainable funding solutions.”
