Funding Futures: $432,000 in Academic Scholarships Announced

Donors who are committed to expanding access to higher education make it possible for CFSA to offer dozens of scholarship opportunities every year.  The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona is proud to announce that $432,000 in scholarships have been awarded for the 2020-2021 academic year.

In addition to specific scholarships supported by individuals, corporate entities, and community partners, generous donors make it possible for CFSA to offer ten General Scholarships to support local students through four years of an undergraduate college education. Recipients are selected by a committee of community volunteers.

A 2020 graduate from the University of Arizona and CFSA General Scholarship recipient, Michelle Huynh hopes to use her Bachelors of Science in Retail and Consumer Sciences to pursue a career in trend forecasting within the fashion industry. “My path to doing so would not be possible without your generosity,” Huynh shared.  “I am motivated to graduate and continue on to the next chapter of my life, but I am also motivated to be the best role model I can possibly be for my younger sister. I will continue to preserve this outlook on life so that one day, I too can give back to my community.”

Lorraine Padilla is also a CFSA General Scholarship 2020 graduate.

“Neither of my parents are in the position to be able to financially contribute to my college education,” shared Padilla. She worked as an intern at CFSA while in high school, and we can attest to her strong work ethic and dedication to her family. “Last year, my mother finally received documentation to begin working in the U.S. and for a very long time, I was working full-time and part-time jobs while in school to help my family.”  She continued, “Without donors like you, I would most likely be facing the choice of taking out student loans to help pay for my education.”

Funding scholarship is one of many ways CFSA works to invest in the future of Southern Arizona. We believe a thriving community depends on supporting the educational aspirations of students, ensuring they have every opportunity to become future leaders in a talented and skilled workforce.

Scholarships at the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona are as unique and diverse as the donors who establish them.  Learn more about scholarship opportunities available through CFSA here.
