Joint Statement: Arizona Community Foundation and CFSA Regarding Transgender Military Service

The Arizona Community Foundation Center for LGBTQ Philanthropy and the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona LGBT&S Alliance Fund applaud the patriotism and bravery of the more than 15,000 current service members who identify as transgender, and fully support the current policy that allows transgender individuals to serve openly. A reversal of this policy is in direct conflict with the very core of maintaining an all-volunteer military – one that encourages any U.S. citizen willing and able to perform the duties of a service member, to do so. Individuals who identify as transgender have and continue to serve honorably in all branches of the military, completing multiple deployments, earning medals, and protecting the lives of their fellow service members and the freedoms of Americans at home and abroad.

Together, the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona and the Arizona Community Foundation represent communities throughout the great State of Arizona. Both of our organizations are proud to support LGBTQ initiatives that promote fair policies, workplace protections, education and awareness, and community building that enhances the quality of life for all Arizonans. Collectively, we will continue to advocate for equal treatment in the military by strongly opposing any policy that turns back the clock on acceptance of all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or identity.
