CFSA's COVID-19 Response Funds Grants

The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona and its community partners have established two funds to support nonprofits in our southern Arizona service area during this difficult time. Our pledge as a foundation is that 100% of these funds will go directly to support nonprofits in our community. Grant applications are now open and will be accepted on a rolling basis.

Application Process for Both Funds

We anticipate making the first round of awards in the coming weeks as fundraising continues, as well as throughout the outbreak and recovery. Nonprofits are able to submit applications for both types of funding as long as they meet the eligibility criteria.

Based upon the charitable structure of our COVID-19 Response Funds, grants are limited to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations and groups fiscally sponsored by a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. We are not able to fund individuals or businesses directly, labor unions, or other 501(c)(4), 501(c)(5) and 501(c)(6) organizations. A short application must be submitted through our online grant portal Common Grant Application.  If you do not have a Common Grant log-in, please click here to register.  Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and will be kept on file as funding is identified and available until the COVID-19 crisis subsides. CFSA staff will contact organizations when funding becomes available. Organizations are encouraged to contact CFSA staff at any time should they have questions about their application. 

About the Funds

CFSA’s COVID-19 Community Support Fund
The COVID-19 Community Support Fund provides flexible resources to southern Arizona nonprofit organizations that are serving individuals and families impacted by this outbreak. The COVID-19 crisis will be felt throughout our community for months to come and this fund offers long-term assistance to those most affected.

The COVID-19 Community Support Fund is designed to complement other available resources and to expand our local capacity to address the needs of vulnerable populations disproportionately stressed by the outbreak.

Funds will be distributed to nonprofit organizations serving Arizona’s most vulnerable with a focus on providing basic human needs and access to healthcare to affected populations, including low-income individuals, residents without access to healthcare, older adults, health care workers, first responders, LGBTQ+ individuals, disabled residents and communities of color. Funds may be available for other populations and needs as they emerge.

CFSA’s COVID-19 Nonprofit Event Relief Fund
The COVID-19 Nonprofit Event Relief Fund provides a one-time grant award to organizations that, due to COVID-19, have had to cancel critical fundraising events and programming, resulting in a significant hardship on the organization. This general operating support grant can replace lost revenue and non-recoverable expenses.

Grant Guidelines & Basic Eligibility

The CFSA’s COVID-19 Community Support Fund will provide grants to organizations in the range of $3,000-$20,000. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and, if accepted, processed within two-weeks of award notification.

The CFSA’s COVID-19 Nonprofit Event Relief Fund will provide one-time assistance in the range of $3,000-$10,000 to organizations that have had to cancel critical fundraising events and programming. Events and programming must have been cancelled starting March 1, 2020. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and, if accepted, processed within two weeks of award notification.

Applicants must:

  • Be a 501(c)(3) in good standing, based in and doing charitable work in Pima County or Santa Cruz County.
  • Have local leadership in the form of a board of directors or advisory committee, local financial support, and local program management and accountability. In the case of nationally sponsored organizations, no portion of the grant can be used to support the national, state, or regional entity.
  • Offer programs that directly benefit people living in Pima County or Santa Cruz County.

The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona honors the rich diversity of our community and promotes equal opportunities for all people.
