(Tucson, Ariz.—Sept. 6, 2012) — Donor, community leader and former trustee Mary Bernal is the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona’s Spirit of Philanthropy honoree at the National Philanthropy Day celebration on Thursday, November 8, 2012 from 11 a.m. to 1:15 p.m. at the Westin La Paloma Resort & Spa in Tucson.
The Spirit of Philanthropy Awards recognize people for their generous spirit that is evidenced in their contributions of time, efforts, and/or resources. Those who are honored with this award demonstrate extraordinary leadership and vision in support of charitable agencies’ goals.
“We selected Mary because of her ongoing passion for our community and her demonstrated leadership in making it a better place for everyone. Mary also was our choice because of her 10 years of extraordinary service on our Board of Trustees, where she gave generously of her time talent and treasure to ensure that we support our donors in making a difference,” said Nancy M. Davis, Chair, Board of Trustees, Community Foundation for Southern Arizona.
The Community Foundation for Southern Arizona provides expertise and skilled guidance to help donors give back in ways that are aligned with their charitable and financial goals. Donors establish charitable funds that join hundreds of other funds under one organizational roof and every year, portions of each fund are used to make grants, scholarships and awards in accordance with each donor’s intentions. The Board of Trustees oversees the Foundation’s growing community endowment and ensure that donors’ intentions are honored now and forever. In fiscal year 2011-12, the Foundation’s endowment totaled $105 million, contributions were $7.5 million, and grants totaled $5.3 million.
