Igor Gorin Memorial Award Announces Jacqueline Piccolino as the 2017 Award Recipient

Piccolino Jacqueline Headshot 1-1-1 (1)The Igor  Gorin Memorial Award announces Jacqueline Piccolino as the recipient of the 2017 Award. Ms. Piccolino, an Italian-American soprano, hailed by the San Francisco Chronicle as having “impeccable technique and stage presence” and a recent San Francisco Opera Adler Fellow, made her San Francisco Opera debut in the summer of 2013 as Stella in Les Contes d’Hoffmann.

The Igor Gorin Memorial Award was established in 1987 by Mary Gorin as a fitting way to honor the memory of her husband, Igor Gorin, a world-renowned opera singer.  This unrestricted award is given out once a year to help aspiring opera singers with expenses associated with hiring accompanists and coaches, and auditioning as they transition from school into professional careers.

“I am proud of my achievements thus far as a singer.  I know my successes have been a result of not only my tireless efforts to hone my craft, but also all the gracious financial and developmental support I’ve received,” said Jacqueline Piccolino. She appreciates the impact that an award like this can make in her life as a singer.  “I want to share my art and passion for singing opera, and I know this award will help free me of the financial burden that often hinders young artists at the onset of their careers.”

Held at the Community Foundation for Southern Arizona, this Fund has awarded $286,300 to 43 individual young artists since 1993.  Today,  the Igor Gorin Memorial Award is one of the most prestigious and generous awards of its kind in the country.

Cynthia Haymon, Piccolino’s vocal instructor at the University of Illinois, was elated to learn of Piccolino’s selection. “She is a hard-working, sincere young artist, an outstanding person,” she said. “[This] award, along with Jacque’s wonderful gift, will allow this talented young artist to take advantage of all of the  cultural and musical components which develops a refined, great, artist of distinction.”
